I was asked to create a gif animation to represent a library search. I first brainstormed key words and bolded the circles I liked the best. My client wanted the illustration to be clean, friendly and sophisticated yet fun for any age. I figured the best solution would be to represent a librarian helping you "look" or a book. I felt the best way to represent "search" "looking" was to show a pair of binoculars. Wondering what type of person I should draw to represent the librarlan I was looking at an image of all the librarians that work at Boulder Library and saw one in particular who has worked there for over 20 years would be perfect. She is 70 years old, has the most beautiful smile and a little granny fro. The library was so happy I used her to represent the search tool since she has been working there for so long and everyone in the community knows and loves her. I added her eyes blinking to make it not feel static. After reviewing with the client they thought it was perfect for what they requested. They added this to their library search data system and they plan on using this in the future on their facebook page and ads.
Strong Men Series
A series of strong men I drew for a clients request. Stickers and greeting cards were created.
I love to illustration but if there is one thing I love more it is turning my animations into gifs. Here are a few gifs I have created on my own time for fun!
Under the Sea Birthday
For zulily's 7th birthday we thought it would be clever to do the Seven Seas as our theme. I gathered inspiration from Finding Nemo and wanting to keep the majority of the sea creatures happy and simple. After I was done sketching and vectoring them they were laid out to get cut out and then glued together. The use of these were for Shopable events, gifs made for social (facebook/instagram/twitter/pinterest) and there was even a movie made. We also used these internally for the 7th birthday zulily had for its employees and the vectors were seen throughout the slideshow and on polaroid backgrounds/props.
Happy 7th Birthday, zulily!
zulily Back to School
I created the illustrations for the back-to-school campaign. I also created mobile/site assets such as filler tiles, an iTunes preview, and themeing throughout events and the site.
I was asked to create a gif for a couple announcing their engagement online. The groom then asked me to create a version for his best man who loves to do Yoga since he introduced both of them at a yoga class!
For the zulily holiday style guide I was in charge of illustration work, brainstorming, themeing for mobile, iPad, desktop and email.
I also created a variety of illustrations for the whole design team to use for ads and home page images. This lasted from October - December on zulily.
A step by step process of my work process. Here is a fun project I did for Mikey Burton's skillshare class.
I drew my desk space for a design article that was centered around my illustration work.
A client wanted a little art boombox to put in her birthday cards. I created this for her based off the colors of her party.
